Working and/or studying is not self-evident when you have an impairment. Things are often carelessly arranged, or there is little consideration of the potential presence of disabled people. ‘Accessible Academia’ was founded to present this group a space to exchange experiences. Accessible Academia also does advocacy work, and stands up for the rights of disabled people (students and employees) connected to a Dutch university. Rooting our work in academic work, we also wish to give a platform to experience-led research on disability. Furthermore, we amplify the voices of disabled scientists/scholars.

Accessible Academia wants to generate attention for the hurdles that disabled scientists/scholars, university employees, and students so often face. We provide a space to discuss these experiences. We also strive to improve the position of disabled people in universities.
